Chinese Yoyo at CHS
by CHS TA
Chinese school has given me many activities to look forward to. One example of such activities that I enjoy doing is Chinese Yoyo.
In this culture class, there is a variety of tricks one can learn. With a spectrum of difficulties, tricks range from easy to hard, the class has provided me with something to look forward to every week.
The school has given me many inspirational teachers who motivate me to work hard to get to the next trick. My siblings, who taught Chinese Yoyo at CHS, had attended Yoyo classes outside of the school to further their expertise. They eventually had transferred/shared their skills/knowledge with CHS students. As mentioned earlier, both my brother and my sister taught the class for many years, and I wish to carry on the tradition. This class has given me the opportunity to make new friends outside of our regular school.
Chinese Yoyo has also created a lot of motivation for me to get better and to volunteer for the school. Students of this sport need to learn how to have patience, in order for them to master the trick and move on to the next levels, and Chinese Yoyo teaches that. In addition, there is always someone ahead of you in skill levels, and you would always want to improve and perhaps create some friendly competition amongst your peers. The only way to enhance your ability at the sport is to practice at home, and every student wants to get better.
To add on, the amount of tricks are countless, and you can make up tricks on your own that you can teach others. All in all, being a part of the Chinese Yoyo culture class has given me the opportunity to create memories that will stick with me forever.
